Mission to Central Asia

On Sunday 18th October we had a special guest who works in Central Asia. They shared about their plans to eventually live in a very remote village high in the mountains. The Summer temperature only reaches a max. of 17 degrees C! The Winters are long and snowy. The village is impoverished and there is a great spiritual need there. Our guest clearly had a sacrificial love for these people and it was a pleasure to meet this dear person and to commit to pray for the project. It may well take several years to build links and be accepted to work there.

Caring for Life

Bethany recently celebrated God's goodness with a Harvest Thanksgiving

Joel Meachem taught from Genesis 8 After Noah's Flood, God promises that until the New Creation after Jesus returns, that the regular seasons, generally speaking will continue. The seasons have continued, despite changes in climate over the millennia. Despite natural disasters and human greed, corruption and warfare - overall there has been enough for all - if human greed didn't get in the way of fair distribution of course!

Genesis 8:22 (CSB) "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.”

Even more, God has kept His promise to send the Messiah - the Saviour into the world to bring eternal hope and salvation to all who repent and believe.

John 3:16 (CSB) For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Caring For Life is a Christian charity seeking to "Share the Love of Jesus" with at-risk and hurting people, including those who are homeless. Through providing long-term support, homes and friendship, they gradually help people to move on from past heartache and hardship towards a happier future.

They offer this support through access to Daytime Activities, Housing Support, Benefits & Tenancies Support and Supported Living.

Church Anniversary & Pastor's Induction Service

The service was well attended with friends from churches as far away as Cambridgeshire. Pastor Andrew Miller from Newark Evangelical Church led the Induction part of the service and Pastor Klass-Jan Gunnink from Fernwood Community Church preached from 2 Timothy 3:15-4:5 about the importance for a church to have Bible teaching pastor of integrity. A church that allows current opinion or traditions to be the main authority is seriously losing is way.

2 Timothy 4:2-5 (CSB) Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and teaching. 3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. 4 They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5 But as for you, exercise self-control in everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.

Join us the 3rd Sunday each month for a fellowship lunch after the morning service.

Bible Study & Prayer:

Wednesdays: We meet for a weekly study & prayer time at 6-7:30pm.

You have the option of meeting at 5pm for soup, rolls and cake - more importantly for a time of fellowship!

We are due to start a new series looking at God's Promises and how they are kept and fulfilled in the life and ministry of the LORD JESUS. Our study guide published by the Good Book Company is essentially a Bible overview with a CHRIST-centred focus! Come and join us!

We are also using this book to help us personally pray for each other: 5 Things to Pray for Your Church. Each of the 21 sections has a passage from the Bible and from that, draws five points to pray through. It really helps to spark ideas for Bible-based prayers for each other!

Bethany is a Bible believing and teaching, evangelical church. We have a strong tradition of expository Bible teaching ministry and believe that where the Bible is faithfully taught God's voice is heard, as the Holy Spirit works in the hearts of the hearers in response to the prayers of God's people. We are a missionary minded church with both a local and global focus, and long to see the people of this area won for Christ. We are blessed with a warm family feel to the fellowship and would like to launch more outreach activities as we grow.
